This puts shit into perspective for me.
When WAYNE FUCKING BRADY is shook like dice...We got problems.
The access to information via social media can be a good thing. But it also can trigger paranoia. A friend of mine said I look for racism to confirm my feelings. It's as if I need it because I just look for the negative.
After a few weeks of thinking about that statement. I have to say that while I can do without racism....And when I say I can do without racism I am saying that I don't want anyone to experience it. Frankly I live in New York. I haven't experienced HARDCORE racism in a long time. I mean I grew up in the 70's and 80's when shit was palatable...This generation has George Zimmerman, in my day we had a guy by the name of Bernard Goetz. This generation has the Jena 6, we had the Central Park Five.
What I trying to get at is that racism isn't something that will go away if I stop reading articles about unarmed young black men/women getting shot. It doesn't work that way. Just because I have the kind of life where outright racist violence doesn't intrude on my life doesn't mean that the overall situation of Black America is any better than it was when I was growing up...You can quote stats all you want (I do not find solace in the numbers), fact of the matter is young black people are seen as a threat.
Here's some perspective, remember Stop and Frisk?? Stop and Frisk is a policy by which police officers stop and question hundreds of thousands of pedestrians and frisk them for weapons and other contraband randomly. Bill de Blasio ended that policy...on a completely unrelated note Bill de Blasio has a bi-racial (black) son.
