Allhiphop.com does some Q&A with Nelly
Loon leaves Bad Boy. Y'all remember Loon. Back in Feburary he got out on bail for attempted murder. But then the charges were dropped in September.
Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five get snubbed. By the Rock N Roll hall of fame. This kind of sucks if you ask me. I mean U2 is great in their own right but they are not the innovators that Grandmaster Flash & Co. are, just think about it Grandmaster Flash is credited with developing a series of techniques: "cutting" (moving between tracks exactly on the beat), "back-spinning" (manually turning records to repeat brief snippets of sound), and "phasing" (manipulating turntable speeds) — in short, creating the basic vocabulary which DJs continue to follow even today.
Maybe this is the reason why there should be two different Hall of Fame's. One for Hip Hop the other for Rock.

Why should Grandmaster Flash be put into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? That makes about as much sense as Babe Ruth getting into the Pro Football Hall of Fame (or for that matter, U2 getting into something called the "Hip Hop Hall of Fame").
Grandmaster Flash should be in the Rock N' Roll Hall of fame cause he created a style that is used in Rock music today.
How so?
Grandmaster Flash created several techniques (ie "cutting") that are used in Rock music today. You know all those rock bands that have a DJs (Linkin Park, Deftones, Korn, etc.). Grandmaster Flash is an influence on all of them.
By that logic, Aerosmith should be in the hip hop Hall of Fame because they influenced Run DMC. It's a very weak argument.
Rock stars get to go in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and those who are not rock stars should not. That seems to be self-evident.
It is the "Rock and Roll" Hall of Fame after all.
"Rock stars get to go in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and those who are not rock stars should not. That seems to be self-evident."
Wrong. The O'Jays (R&B), the Righteous Brothers (R&B), Johnny Cash (country), Otis Redding (R&B), John Coltrane (Jazz) and The Temptations (R&B). Are all in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. By your arguement they shouldn't be in there.
It is your arguement that is weak my friend.
Rock evolved from R&B and Country, it did not evolve from hip hop. I'll give it to you that Coultrane shouldn't be there.
That's exactly my point. Rock evolved from different genres (including Jazz). Rock continues to evolve due to the influence of hip hop. That's the interesting thing about Rock N' Roll it borrows from different genres.
If representatives from different genres can be inducted then why not Grandmaster Flash?
Because rock CAME from R&B and country...those genres predated it.
Hip hop's influences come from, what, the 70s and 80s. If anything, through the use of samples, Hip Hop has evolved from rock more than the other way around.
If Flash deserves a place in the rock and roll hall of fame, they should rename it to the "all of music's Hall of Fame". Then they should put Pavoratti in.
But it's not. It's the rock and roll hall of fame. It's not a place for Hip Hop acts.
You are ignoring the simple fact that Rock continues to evolve. And Hip Hop is a key influence on what rock is today.
"Hip hop's influences come from, what, the 70s and 80s. If anything, through the use of samples, Hip Hop has evolved from rock more than the other way around."
Some of Hip hop's influences predate rock music (jazz).
And?

If the "Rock & Roll" hall of fame includes artists like James Brown and P-Funk, it makes perfect sense to consider adding the old school Bronx artists like Gransmaster Flash (and, down the line, Run DMC, PE, and so on). Those artists were the next step of the musical evolution that James Brown and co. launched
Hip Hop IS the "rock & roll" of our generation (along with grunge, new wave, ska, nu-rock, two-tone, reggae, you name it). The Hall would be remiss to ignore this.
I wouldn't worry about the Grandmaster, Dr. - he'll be in there soon enough. That said, even with his many important innovations, i still wouldn't use him and U2 in the same sentence.
(guess who?)
