Black people loot, white people find.

Upon seeing this I could have easily taken the high road and be a good Negro and say that these pictures came from two different sources and that people are blowing this out of proportion. But who the fuck would I be kidding?

I was so pissed off when I saw these photos that I responded to an email with the following message:

White people in these situations always talk about how black folks steal. I got one question for all my white friends.
How the fuck do you think we got here in the first place? The answer WE WERE STOLEN! So don't talk to me about stealing.

Some of my white friends that are reading this will think that I'm doing the old angry black guy bit but I assure you that I mean every word I said in that message. Who else out there is sick and fucking tired of this bullshit? Who else out there just wants this race shit to come to a fucking end? I for one wish to God that white people (and black people) could see the stupid shit they do to perpetuate this crap.

I've seen this story reported on other blogs and some people don't seem to understand how blatantly racist this is. And that's the fucking PROBLEM. White people don't understand why it's racist. Their logic is, "Well the pictures are coming from TWO different news sources and two different photographers took the pictures"

My response to this logic is. SO F*CKING WHAT? It's still wrong. And if you can't see that, then there's a problem with the way you perceive things. The point is WHY would one reporter look at two white people with food and say they FOUND food while another reporter looks at a young black man and say he STOLE the food.

And while I'm on a roll, can I ask y'all something? WHERE ARE THE WHITE PEOPLE OF LOUISIANA? Seriously it's as if all the white people were warned and all the black people just decided to stay. Now I know that's truly not the case because the police would never do something so racist as to just warn the white folks and leave the black people to suffer.

Here's what I think happened. You have a LOT of black people out there who didn't have the means to evacuate. Meaning they didn't have cell phones, money, cars or family that would take them in, so they were left to brave out the storm. Now of course no one thought the levee would break but it did and the rest is history.

Now getting back to my original rant about racism in the media, A picture speaks a thousand words but it's the caption that everyone reads, and that's the problem. People just need to open their eyes and maybe just maybe we can take a step toward ending the bullshit. What do y'all think?

A pizza can get you fired... and get you on a cruise
Just ask James Garrisson, who was fired for eating a slice of pizza he should not have.

Do you think there is looting, raping, and shooting at rescue people in the white areas too? Is the media ignoring that to focus on black people doing these things?

I think the majority of white people had the means to get out of Louisiana.

But if you are speaking in general terms white people are raping and killing all over the world and the media is ignoring it. Just look at what the French did in the Ivory Coast in Africa.

And this is based on what? Your fantasy that all white people are well-to-do? White poverty exists Jazz.

This is based on what I seen on CNN. The liberal media has got me fooled that black people didn't have the means to leave Louisiana. Where are the white people in New Orleans?

Yeah white poverty exists. But we are not talking about that. Based on what I've seen White people in poverty can FIND food.

I'm glad you brought up N.O., the mostly black city that the media focused on. They ignored for days the other two states that were hit hard, where mostly poor white people were affected.

I'm not saying there is a bias against white people here, I'm just saying that your argument about a bias against black people is off base.

Are you blind? Of course there is a bias against blacks. Just look at the two pictures.

I'm guessing that the media didn't focus on the other two states hit because the brunt of the storm hit New Orleans.

No one is denying the other states recieved damage but the most lives and the most money was lost in New Orleans.

That's a great post.

Preach! It doesn't matter that it was two different sources...the reality is that is the way we are thought of in America. Do you know how long it took for them to get aid there in the first damn place? Then they want to go in and shoot and complain about the looting...when all else has foresaken you...wtf would you do? One of your better posts Doc.

the photographer on the photo w/the white couple said his editor wouldn't allow him to use the word loot because he didn't see them take the items. so since they couldn't prove it was stealing, and could be sued for libel, they went with found.

but i do think race has played a part in this whole issue. and i think that white america does have the attitude that, "of course the blacks went and looted. that's how they react (see los angeles, watts, detroit, etc.)". nevermind that white people riotted in those occassions, or in boston afer the red sox won.

intersting site. i'll be back

The thing to me is that now, for all the people who want to say the media isn't biased and they just reports what's going on, this is proff that they are wrong. But I wonder how long people will remember?

Hey Kajuana, is the media biased against poor white people? They ignored what happened in Alabama and Mississippi for days.

Nominal,

No disrespect but let's just get this out of the way and answer some questions honestly OK?

Almost every time you look at the reports out of New Orleans,do you or do you not see the media referring to Black people as looters while White people are referred to as either borrowing or "trying to find a way to feed their families"? Do you or do you not see them interviewing more Blacks and showing more of us without shelter or the bare necessities than they show White people? If you're honest with yourself, then you know the answer is yes. Okay, fine. So either we can conclude either one of two things. That the media is concentrating/exploiting the Black people who are without OR most of the white people have been either given the means to or already had the means to take care of themselves and get their family out of New Orleans. Which means that there are very few of them to interview and report on. Either which way, it still supports the argument that black people are being treated differently, doesn't it?

As for the media not giving national coverage of the tragedy that exists in the other states, as you've pointed out the majority of the population there is Caucasian. I think you can also agree that the media generally gravitates towards drama so perhaps you should consider that the reason why they haven't reported this in other areas with White demographics is because most of the people there are either getting the help that they need already or they have the means to evacuate. It may be a semblance of a story but no real drama there.

So the bottom line is that there is a biased and I think that you know that but it's possible that you feel as though by us pointing this out that we are also pointing at you and that is not the case. Simply put, we're not going to sit down and allow people to ignore what is so plainly in our faces. All of our lives we have been taught to live in both worlds (black and white) so we are able to see things from both perspectives. Perhaps you should learn to do the same. Watch the news again and go by what you see not what you hope. Noticed the disparity. Respectfully. ~ Blaize
